Periodontal Therapy Services In Pensacola, FL

Our Mission Is To Make You Smile

Periodontal Therapy
Having great oral health goes beyond taking care of your teeth, it also includes caring for your gums. What many people don’t realize is how at risk their gums may be to bacterial infections and the lasting consequences of these infections. Gum disease can have a negative impact on your oral and overall health.

At Taylor Dental, we engineer treatments that cater to your every dental need. To provide an all-encompassing service, we work to spot gum disease early and have treatments in place to reverse the effects of the infection.

Periodontitis is a serious gum disease that damages the soft tissue of your mouth. This soft tissue is what holds your teeth in place, so compromised gums can lead to problems such as loose teeth or even complete tooth loss. If left untreated, Periodontitis can destroy the bone that supports your teeth and keep them stabilized.

This gum disease may sound far-fetched, but it’s a very common occurrence. It’s very preventable, so most cases don’t progress to the point where teeth are lost. However, it’s still important to watch for this disease so that it doesn’t begin to eat away at your gums. Indicators that your gums may be infected include redness and swelling. Healthy gums are firm and pink, so if they are a darker hue than normal this may be a sign that you are in the early stages of Periodontitis.

The best way to prevent gum disease is to maintain a great oral healthcare routine that consists of brushing at least twice a day and flossing often. Typically, patients who are diagnosed with Periodontitis exhibit poor dental hygiene that leads to infection. However, there are also patients who may be predisposed to Periodontitis for one of the following reasons:

  • Genetics: Heredity is one of the most common causes of periodontal disease. Some patients are genetically predisposed to harbor bacteria that lead to infection.
  • Medications: Some prescription drugs, such as antidepressants and certain oral contraceptives, cause dry mouth. Since there is a decrease in the production of saliva, dental plaque is more likely to develop.
  • Stress: When the body is under stress, your overall health and immune system are weakened.
  • Hormones: Sudden fluctuations in hormones can lead to changes in your oral health. Some patients experience an increase in gum disease during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause.
  • Tobacco: Smoking or the use of tobacco products is a primary risk factor for periodontal disease. Not only does tobacco cause plaque and tartar to build faster, but it also decreases healing capacity.
  • Bruxism: Grinding or clenching your teeth places additional stress on your teeth and the surrounding tissues. If you already have gingivitis or gum disease, bruxism can worsen the symptoms.
  • Poor Diet: Good nutrition is vital for overall oral and physical health. Patients who eat a diet high in carbohydrates and sugar have a greater chance of developing tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Disease: Certain diseases contribute to a higher risk factor for periodontal diseases, such as diabetes, HIV, or rheumatoid arthritis, among others.
Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical solution to Periodontitis. It is used to treat mild cases of the disease so that it doesn’t continue to spread and destroy tissue. This deep-cleaning technique will involve numbing the gums with local anesthesia, allowing the clinician to clean deep into the gum line without causing any discomfort.

Prior to the procedure, you will come in for an appointment to evaluate your specific dental needs. A team member will perform periodontal charting to determine the depth of the pockets around each tooth and the severity of your Periodontitis.

During the procedure, a combination of hand scalers and ultrasonic instruments will be used to clean the root surfaces of the teeth. We’ll begin by removing any harmful bacteria and plaque that is hiding underneath the gumline and causing infection. After the tartar and plaque build-up is removed, we will go back in to smooth the rough surfaces of the root. The gum will have a clean surface to reattach itself to as it heals from the scaling. Most patients report little to no discomfort following the appointment.

After the scaling and root planing procedure, it’s critical that you maintain your oral health. This means keeping a dental hygiene routine at home as well as coming into the office more often for cleanings. We will recommend an appropriate cleaning schedule to maintain the health of your gums. Patients who have periodontal disease may require more frequent cleanings, such as three to four times a year, to help remedy heightened bacteria levels.

During your appointment, we will give you tips on how to keep a more regimented oral healthcare routine at home so that you can help keep infection at bay. If you don’t keep up with your at-home routine and don’t attend your scheduled cleanings, it’s very possible that the infection could return more aggressively than it was before.

We want you to have great oral health and a beautiful smile to show for it, so it’s important that you do your part to keep up with your dental hygiene. We are here for regularly scheduled cleanings, but without consistent care at home, you may be making yourself vulnerable to infection. If the infection spreads far enough, it may require a surgical treatment rather than the nonsurgical treatment of scaling and root planing.

I am extremely terrified of going to the dentist. I have had extensive work done my entire life and always feel sick to my stomach when I have to go. Taylor dental is not your average dentist office. You are greeted by kind smiling faces who REMEMBER you after meeting you one time. The office is extremely clean and doesn’t smell like a dentist office which is a huge plus for me. Dr Hofius did 4 fillings on me and I have never been so calm during a dental procedure. He is kind and caring and very patient. Soft spoken and never makes you feel judged when you say you are nervous about something. Same thing goes to his assistants. I had Q & Tina for the 2 appointments I had and they were excellent. I can’t thank all of you so much for making this easy and not a scary experience. I will forever be going here. This should be the standard for all dental offices.
Response from the owner:Thank you for taking the time to share such kind words. We’re glad to hear that your experience made such a positive impact. Creating a calm, welcoming, and respectful environment is something we value deeply, and it’s always encouraging to hear when those efforts are appreciated. Your feedback is truly meaningful — thank you again for sharing it!

All these great reviews are true. I am a nurse, and I am 62 years old. In today's world, the function, knowledge, efficiency, pleasantness is something I haven't seen in a long time. In fact, I'm not sure I have ever seen it. It was my first trip. And, at first, I thought it seemed super busy (which would likely result in rushed / poor care) and a bit factory like.............was I wrong!!! I have had good dentists and wonderful staff work with me over the years, but this is the best ever. I don't know how they have orchestrated this, but I will be back, for sure. My care team was: Ashley, treatment coordinator; Hanna, check in; Tempest, hygienist; Liz, assistant; and Dr. Hofius. Thank you for your care. See you in 6 months! Marianne Combs
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind words, Marianne! We’re truly honored by your feedback and grateful you chose us for your dental care. We're especially glad to hear that your experience exceeded expectations—our team works hard to provide a welcoming, efficient, and high-quality environment for every patient. We look forward to seeing you again at your next visit!

Response from the owner:Thank you for the wonderful review! We're so glad to hear that your visits have been consistently comfortable and positive. We'll be sure to pass along your kind words to Jessica. It’s always our goal to make every appointment a great experience!

Ok-this is gonna take a minute. Get ready to read. My teeth have been a huge source of shame for decades. Pregnancy, poor choices, genetics, and a myriad of other things had led to black, broken, missing, painful teeth and a deep rooted shame. I never smiled. All I thought about was my teeth. I began the road to fixing it ten years ago and ran into issue into problem into another issue over and over. Huge price tags, dentists that were doing unnecessary work, endless visits to be told to go to the next one and then they would be able to help. It was a nightmare. On top of already being riddled with anxiety about the whole experience it consistently went wrong at every level that I tried to fix it. I was an anxiety ridden mess (it took everything out of me mentally to even make these appointments. I was going through it. The teeth were an extension of that.), it felt like I had a witch’s curse put on me-nothing related to my teeth would work out. It’s written in the stars. After almost giving up and resigning myself to the fact that I would never smile or speak in a way that could expose my teeth-I finally ended up at Taylor Dental. LIFE CHANGING. Dr. Leblanc has been so professional but chill. He makes everything easy to understand and never fluffs it up. His work is quick and painless. The office is so nice, clean, comfortable and air conditioned. They play good music overhead. You have a tv to look at while they are doing their dental stuff.
He keeps it real but isn’t scary.
Brenda, all the girls up front - the entire staff without exception- are amazing. Always genuinely friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help. AND! they keep tabs on you in an unobtrusive way that is refreshing. I fell into a funk (notice a pattern?) and didn’t check in for a long time. They reached out to me and made me feel comfortable and confident enough to come back in and resume treatment and not feel judged. And I wasn’t! Life went on like nothing had ever happened.
I’m a professional woman with a thriving business and an active family, I’m not just pouting all day and letting my teeth rot. But, things happen. I wanted to write this novel to let others that may understand where I’m coming from know that THIS IS THE PLACE. Taylor Dental! Doc Josh LeBlanc! He is so great. (His wife is also a dentist there. I’m sure she’s awesome. Never met her. Her husband rules so fair to say she’s even cooler). Girl Power all female staff. 10/10-totes recommend.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your fantastic review and recommendation! We're thrilled to hear that our staff made you feel comfortable and supported throughout your smile transformation. Your kind words and satisfaction mean the world to us.

This is, without a doubt, the best dental office I've ever been to. The entire team is friendly, knowledgeable, and caring. My dental technician, Tina, always remembers my preferences, and my hygienist, Brenda, has helped me improve my dental health so much! Tempest is so kind and attentive, and the doctors, Dr. Garner-Leblanc and Dr. Leblanc, are excellent at explaining treatment options. The reception team is also top-notch, always ready to help with any questions. Such a wonderful team! I recommend them to everyone!
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for your amazing review! We're thrilled to hear that you've had such a positive experience with our entire team. We'll be sure to share your kind words with Tina, Brenda, Tempest, Dr. Garner-Leblanc, Dr. Leblanc, and our front desk team. We truly appreciate your recommendation!
