Scaling & Root Planing In Pensacola, FL

Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical solution to Periodontitis. It is used to treat mild cases of the disease so that it doesn’t continue to spread and destroy tissue. This deep-cleaning technique will involve numbing the gums with local anesthesia, allowing the clinician to clean deep into the gum line without causing any discomfort.

Prior to the procedure, you will come in for an appointment to evaluate your specific dental needs. A team member will perform periodontal charting to determine the depth of the pockets around each tooth and the severity of your Periodontitis.

During the procedure, a combination of hand scalers and ultrasonic instruments will be used to clean the root surfaces of the teeth. We’ll begin by removing any harmful bacteria and plaque that is hiding underneath the gumline and causing infection. After the tartar and plaque build-up is removed, we will go back in to smooth the rough surfaces of the root. The gum will have a clean surface to reattach itself to as it heals from the scaling. Most patients report little to no discomfort following the appointment.

After the scaling and root planing procedure, it’s critical that you maintain your oral health. This means keeping a dental hygiene routine at home as well as coming into the office more often for cleanings. We will recommend an appropriate cleaning schedule to maintain the health of your gums. Patients who have periodontal disease may require more frequent cleanings, such as three to four times a year, to help remedy heightened bacteria levels.

During your appointment, we will give you tips on how to keep a more regimented oral healthcare routine at home so that you can help keep infection at bay. If you don’t keep up with your at-home routine and don’t attend your scheduled cleanings, it’s possible that the infection could return more aggressively than it was before.

We want you to have great oral health and a beautiful smile to show for it, so it’s important that you do your part to keep up with your dental hygiene. We are here for regularly scheduled cleanings, but without consistent care at home, you may be making yourself vulnerable to infection. If the infection spreads far enough, it may require a surgical treatment rather than the nonsurgical treatment of scaling and root planing.

I have horrible dental anxiety and from the moment I entered this office all of my anxieties were relieved!

Every single person I encountered was kind, calming and incredibly friendly. Ashely (at the front desk) could not have been more friendly or helpful.

The hygienist (Brenda) was very gentle and comforting. The Dentist ( Dr Hofius) was thorough, informative, answered all my questions without rushing and relieved all of my fears and worries.

I highly recommend Taylor Dental and I am so happy I found a practice that does not make me fearful 😊
Dee S.
Very little wait time if any. Jessica is excellent! Good advice from the doctor.
Anastacia V.
Everyone here is so sweet and friendly. I especially love that the dentists address the hygienists by name. It seems small and inconsequential, but I’ve been to dentist offices where the dentist comes in does their thing and leaves. At Taylor Dental the dentists not only address patients by name and actually talk to them, they also talk to their hygienists. It feels like a safe, comforting environment, which is exactly what you want in not only a workplace but also in a dentist office.

Wonderful experience definitely recommend Taylor Dental
Kimmie B.

Dr. Leblanc took lots of time explaining everything that needs to be done. My first visit to this dentist and I'll be returning soon. Thank you all great team effort.
Lloyd H.
My procedure went better than I expected and I am VERY SATISFIED with the results! All the staff members were very friendly, welcoming and professional.

I’ve been a patient for many many years. By far the best dental clinic in the Pensacola area.

Benefits of Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a highly effective treatment for periodontal disease. By removing plaque and tartar buildup from below the gumline, this procedure helps to reduce inflammation, prevent further gum recession, and promote gum tissue healing. In addition, scaling and root planing can help to prevent tooth loss and improve overall oral health.

Patients who undergo scaling and root planing may experience reduced sensitivity, improved breath, and a healthier smile. With proper at-home oral hygiene and regular dental visits, the benefits of scaling and root planing can be long-lasting. If you are dealing with gum disease symptoms such as bleeding gums, bad breath, or loose teeth, scaling and root planing may be the solution you need to restore your oral health.

Importance of Maintenance After Scaling and Root Planing

After undergoing scaling and root planing, it is crucial to maintain good oral hygiene habits to prevent the recurrence of periodontal disease. This includes brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and using an antiseptic mouthwash. Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are also essential in preventing plaque buildup and monitoring the health of your gums.

By following your dentist's recommendations for post-treatment care, you can help ensure the success of your scaling and root planing procedure. Remember that gum disease is a chronic condition that requires ongoing management, so it is important to stay committed to your oral health routine for long-term results.
